Christmas Wrap-Up

Christmas was relatively mellow and non-descript this year.  We had Alex’s Christmas party on the 20th (which, note to Alex’s employer is way too close to Christmas) and it was really good.  It was fun to be able to get all dressed up and look cute.  The best part was running into a few business associates (Alex and I work in the same industry) and them saying, “I didn’t even recognize you, you look so good!”  At first I was proud of myself for looking so damn cute, but then I realized that must mean I look particularly craptastic when I’m working.  So there is part of my New Year’s Resolution:  look decent at work which mostly means blow-drying hair and not just slicking it back into a ponytail or braid.

In the few days before Christmas we threw together an impromptu party with a few friends where Alex decided to drink his face off.  I’m a non-drinker but I have a pretty high tolerance for drunks from years of driving their asses around, but I did end up a little angry.  Alex ran outside to grab something out of the car in his slippers.  He came inside and I told him to wipe off his feet before he came into the living room.  He proceeded to march into the living room and then stomp his feet all over the carpet so there was snow EVERYWHERE.  I was not impressed.  He was trying to show off in front of his friends and he just looked like an asshat, and I let him know it.  The next morning (Christmas Eve) we were opening our gifts together and he woke up and the first words out of his mouth were, “Are you made at me?” so he knew he acted like a douche bag.

After opening our gifts from each other we headed to my parents’ place Christmas Eve.  This was the first time in four years that Alex and I actually got to spend Christmas together so that was really great.  His parents were transferred out of the country and he just didn’t want to deal with the airline madness around Christmas and with all of the storms and delays I think it was a pretty wise decision.  We just relaxed and ate and ate and did I mention we ate?  I know holidays are supposed to be about all of the great food, but this year seemed particularly gluttonous for some reason.  Christmas Day and Boxing Day we shuffled between my brother’s and my parents’ and just enjoyed everyone’s company.  My 20 month old nephew was the entertainment, especially when he opened up a hockey net and mini-sticks and spent the rest of the afternoon shouting “GOAL!” regardless whether the puck was in the net or not.

The next week we did some post-Christmas shopping (didn’t come away with too much) and just spent time together.  Alex and I were both off from the 19th until today, and since we normally only see each other on weekends it was great to get to spend every day together for more than two weeks.  It was the longest in a row we have EVER seen each other and we came out of it still alive and getting along so I guess we can’t expect much more than that!

I know this is a semi-lame Christmas recap but really? Not a whole lot exciting happened, just good times with family and friends and the excitement of a fresh start for the New Year.

Did any of you have something crazy/exciting happen to you over the Christmas holidays?

Hi there! This is kind of off topic but I need
some help from an established blog. Is it tough to set up
your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick.
I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to begin.
Do you have any points or suggestions? With thanks
